Black Bear with Salmon, Taylor Creek, Lake Tahoe

During the Fall Kokanee Salmon spawn in Taylor Creek here in South Lake Tahoe. As the temperatures cool, these landlocked salmon leave the safety of Lake Tahoe and swim upstream in Taylor Creek toward Fallen Leaf Lake. This is an opportunity the local black bears don't pass up as they are attempting to fatten up for their long winter hibernation. When I have the time, I enjoy wandering the creek and observing the cycle of life in action. This three year old black bear took a moment to observe me as well. Beautiful!
