Sugar Pine in Fog
Fog is rare in Lake Tahoe. In general, we experience fog during an inversion, where the extremely cold cloud layer sinks and the warm air rises. While the temperatures are frigid during an inversion, I feel motivated to get out and compose images in unique atmospheric conditions. This morning was no exception.
I have been enamored with some of the giant old trees that stand tall above the relatively new growth forest here in Lake Tahoe. It has been my vision to photograph them in a way that eludes to their majesty and pays homage to the conditions they have endured for centuries in order to reach their grand scale. This majestic Sugar Pine stands tall above the surrounding Jeffrey and Ponderosa pine trees, with a blanket of frost covered sage below. The fog eliminated the mountains and sky from my composition and softened the pines behind. This scene exudes the subtle strength and power I envisioned.
This is, "The Fine Art of Nature".
